Komatsu PC75UU-2 Hydraulic Pump Common Faults
The main pump is an A10VD43 variable displacement piston pump fitted with a tandem gear pump. Primary failure causes for this legacy model include contaminated hydraulic fluid, suction-side air ingress, and seized regulator assemblies.
1. Sluggish Operation, Insufficient Output Pressure
Symptom: Normal no-load function; marked pressure degradation under load.
Cause: Internal leakage induced by worn valve plates / piston shoes; seized regulator spool or failed springs.
External factors: Blocked suction filter, suction line air leakage, metallic particulates in hydraulic fluid.
Diagnosis: Excessive case drain flow indicates internal pump wear.
2. Abnormal Pump Acoustics, High-Pitched Squealing and Excessive Vibration
- High-pitched squeal (Cavitation): Inadequate suction or air entrainment; milky, foamy hydraulic fluid.
- Metallic tapping: Failed bearing / ball joint assembly, misaligned coupling.
3. Engine Lugging, Speed Reduction or Stall Under Loaded Conditions
Cause: Seized power control spool. The pump remains at maximum displacement and consumes excess engine power.
Diagnostic: Isolate regulator control oil supply. If lugging ceases, the regulator is defective.
4. Elevated Hydraulic Fluid Temperature
Symptom: Rapid temperature rise during operation, accompanied by progressive reduction in operating speed.
Cause: Severe internal leakage; obstructed case drain circuit leading to elevated case pressure.
Note: Confirm radiator and return filter are free of blockage prior to pump assessment.
5. Main Shaft Oil Seal Leakage
Cause: Degraded seal; high case pressure; seal damage from coupling misalignment.
Risk: A compromised seal will draw in air, inducing cavitation and accelerating pump deterioration.
6. Jerky Actuation and Pressure Fluctuation
Cause: Air trapped within the hydraulic circuit; erratic regulator response; localized scoring on valve plate.
7. Tandem Pilot Gear Pump Malfunction
Symptom: Unstable pilot pressure and irregular main pump displacement modulation.
Cause: Gear tooth wear, seal leakage, internal fluid bypass.
